McDaniel downs Gettysburg 2-1 in double OT

WESTMINSTER, Md. - With rain and darkness descending on the field, Adam Sommers (Frostburg, Md./Beall) finished his collegiate career with a 10-yard rocket as the final seconds of double overtime ticked off, sending McDaniel to a 2-1 Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer victory over Gettysburg on Saturday.

With a tie just about to go into the books, the Green Terror (8-8-1, 4-4-1 CC) turned it into a win with 14 seconds to play in the second overtime. After a ball was played out of bounds with fewer than 30 seconds remaining, the ball made its way to Sommers near the top of the box. The senior blasted a shot into the upper-left corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

Drew Erickson tallied for the Bullets (8-7-2, 4-5 CC), knotting the game in the 36th minute.

Paul Seegren (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) finished a Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Carroll) assist at the 11:58 mark to stake McDaniel to an early lead.

Erickson converted a penalty kick at the 35:03 mark to even the game but neither team could find the back of the net until Sommers' game-winner.

McDaniel finished with a 25-19 advantage in shots and 11-6 advantage in corners.

Michael Nemeth made 11 saves for the Bullets while Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) made nine for the Green Terror.
