Blue Jays down McDaniel 3-1 in marathon match to set up
three-way, final-day battle
BALTIMORE, Md. - Allison Cappelaere recorded 16
kills and 15 digs to lead Johns Hopkins to a 3-1 win over McDaniel
in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
With the win, the Blue Jays () remain alive in the playoff
chase, pulling within a game of the Green Terror (17-11, 5-4 CC)
and Muhlenberg with one match to play. McDaniel plays host to
25th-ranked Haverford on Saturday, needing a win to assure itself a
bid in the five-team tournament. The Fords need a victory to assure
they will host the tournament.
The Green Terror's match along with the Gettysburg-Muhlenberg
and Johns Hopkins-Ursinus matches will determine the final spot in
the field.
The Blue Jays took the first set 25-15 before McDaniel evened
the match at 1-all with a 25-20 victory. Johns Hopkins took the
final two sets, including a marathon 34-32 victory in the third set
and a 28-26 win in the fourth set.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) led the
Green Terror attack with 12 kills while Emily Creighton
(Gambrills, Md./South River) added 10. Kristen
Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy)
contributed 29 assists and four kills to the attack and 12 digs and
four total blocks to the defense.
Katie Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York)
steadied the defense with 16 digs while Sarah Byron
(Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Lanni
Reisinger (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added 11 apiece.
Match time on Saturday is 1 p.m.
