Bullets down McDaniel in three sets
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Kristina Mercier recorded 12
kills and 12 digs to lead Gettysburg to a 3-0 victory over McDaniel
in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder)
recorded 12 kills to lead the attack for the Green Terror (15-10,
4-3 CC), who dropped to the fifth and final playoff spot with three
matches to play.
On McDaniel's designated Digging for a Cure night, the Green
Terror recorded 63 digs led by Anne McShea's (Frederick,
Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) 15. Katie Ferguson
(Dover, Pa./Northern York) and Kristen Nuckles
(Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) also reached
double figures in the dig column with 12 and 11, respectively.
In a first set that featured 18 ties and eight lead changes,
Gettysburg took the final two points for a 26-24 victory.
Kate Yoder and Amanda Krampf
teamed up for one of the Bullets' 11 team blocks on the night.
In the second set, Krampf helped Gettysburg reel off seven
straight points to turn a 9-8 deficit into a 15-9 lead en route to
a 25-21 victory.
In the third set a Herrgott ace evened the match at 15-all
before three straight Yoder kills gave the visitors a 18-15 lead en
route to a 25-18 victory and the sweep.
Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) added 10 kills. McShea added seven kills and
three aces while Nuckles had 23 assists.
The Green Terror returns to action in a tri-match at Washington
(Md.) on Saturday. Match time is 12 p.m.
