ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis
School) netted a 20 points to lead McDaniel to a 65-63
victory over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) men's
basketball action on Saturday.
Josh McKay (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) chipped
in 11 points for the Green Terror (14-5, 9-3 CC) while
Chad Arrington (Randallstown,
Md./Randallstown) added eight points, six rebounds and
five assists.
Spencer Liddic recorded a double-double for the
Mules (10-8, 6-6 CC) with a game-high 22 points to go with 10
rebounds.
Clinging to a one-point halftime edge, Muhlenberg extended its lead
to five with 15:04 to play.
Behind five points from Ryan Foster around a
single McKayfree throw, the Mules took a 37-32 advantage before
McDaniel tallied 21 of the game's next 28 points to take a
53-44 lead with 8:06 showing.
McKay led the way with six points during the charge. Ryan
Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon), Louis
Sarris-Grau (Huntington Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) and
Henry – who hit one of his four 3-pointer to give the Green
Terror the lead for good – each contributed five
points.
A Peter Barnes layup pulled Muhlenberg within
58-56 with 2:09 to play but Henry countered with his final trey of
the game to stretch the lead back to five.
After Liddic hit the front end of a 1-and-1 with 32.7 seconds
showing to make it a one-possession game at 61-58, McKay missed his
own front end with 29.4 seconds but Miguel Jones
(Baltimore, Md./North County) corralled the rebound and
converted both of his attempts four seconds later.
Barnes pulled the hosts back within three, hitting a short jumper
with 13.7 seconds on the clock.
After T.J. Odunlami (Columbia, Md./Atholton)
missed the first of his two-shot foul a half-second later, he
rattled home the second attempt to make it a two-possession
game.
Foster drained a 3-pointer from 26 feet with 6.3 seconds before
Jones hit the first of his two attempts with 4.1 seconds on the
clock and Muhlenberg failed to get off a shot in its final
possession to allow the Green Terror to escape no worse than a game
out of first place.
McKay hit a pair of shots on McDaniel's first two possessions
to stake the team to a 4-0 lead just 1:03 into the
contest.
After a single Liddic free throw to get Muhlenberg on the board,
Arringtonhit an elbow jumper to stretch the lead to
6-1.
The Mules missed their first seven shots from the floor before
Liddic converted a second-chance basket to pull the hosts within
6-3.
After Liddic capped a 9-4 burst with a layup that knotted the score
at 10-all with 13:04 to play, Henrydrained a 3-pointer to give
McDaniel the lead again.
T.J. Odunlami (Columbia, Md./Atholton) stretched
the lead to 19-16 with 9:46 showing on the first-half clock but
Muhlenberg countered with a 7-0 run to take a 23-19
lead.
A Henry layup snapped the Green Terror's 6-minute, 11-second
scoring drought and drew his team within two before a Finchtriple
with 1:48 remaining in the half gave the squad a 24-23
advantage.
Liddic converted a pair from the charity stripe at the other end to
once again give the Mules a one-point advantage.
Henry and Liddic exchanged layups in the final 45 seconds to make
it a 27-26 game at the intermission.
Finch added eight points for the Green Terror while Jones chipped
in seven.
Foster added 11 points and four assists for Muhlenberg. Barnes
contributed eight points, eight rebounds and three
helpers.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Wednesday.
Game time is 7 p.m.
