WESTMINSTER, Md. – Chad Arrington
(Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) recorded 19 points and
nine rebounds to lead McDaniel to a 56-53 victory over Gettysburg
in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on
Wednesday.
The Green Terror (13-5, 8-3 CC) built a 17-point lead midway
through the second half before holding on to the three-point
victory to snap its two-game skid and remain a game out of first
place in the conference standings.
Andrew Powers and Joe Spierenburg
led the 25th-raked Bullets (13-4, 8-3 CC) with 17 and 12
points, respectively.
Trailing 4-2, Arrington converted a three-point play with 15:58 on
the clock, sparking a 15-4 run that gave McDaniel a 17-8 advantage
just over five minutes later.
A Paul Crone 3-pointer cut the Gettysburg deficit
to 17-13 with 8:43 to play but the Green Terror tallied the next
seven points to push the lead to double figures for the first time
en route to a 28-19 halftime lead.
An Arrington jumper with 10:04 to play stretched the lead to its
largest at 44-27.
After Dan Capkin and Ryan Finch
(Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) exchanged triples,
Spierenburg converted a layup off one of six Capkin assists to
ignite 16-1 burst that closed the deficit to 48-46 with 2:27
showing.
Back-to-back Capkin triples capped the burst.
Finch halted the McDaniel dry spell with a trey of his own before
Spierenburg once again converted a Capkin feed to make it a
one-possession game with 1:19 to play.
Two Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County)
free throws with 48.2 seconds on the clock stretched the lead back
to five.
A Powers layup with 22.7 seconds to play closed the gap to three
before Jones hit the first of two from the charity stripe with 21.0
seconds showing.
A Powers three-point play made it a one-point game but Finch hit
both free throws with 8.8 seconds showing to set the final
margin.
The Green Terror returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game
time is 2 p.m.
