WESTMINSTER, Md. – Miguel Jones (Baltimore,
Md./North County) netted a career high-tying 22 points to
lead McDaniel to a 65-49 Centennial Conference (CC) men's
basketball victory over Johns Hopkins on Wednesday.
Josh McKay (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) added 17
points and 14 rebounds for the Green Terror (12-3, 7-1 CC), who
notched its eighth straight win to match the program record,
originally set during the 1964-65 season. The win, coupled with a
73-66 win by No. 22 Gettysburg at 24th-ranked Franklin
& Marshall, also allowed McDaniel to keep pace with the Bullets
for the top spot in the conference.
Andrew Farber-Miller paced the Blue Jays (10-5,
5-3 CC) with 13 points.
After a back-and-forth opening seven minutes, a Kevin Henry
(Potomac, Md./Bullis School) putback with 12:51 to play
knotted the game at 9-all and sparked a 10-2 run over the next 2
minutes, 28 seconds to open a 6-point advantage.
Trailing 21-15 with 8:27 to play, Johns Hopkins tallied the next
six points keyed by a Tim McCarty layup at the
other end.
Knotted at 23, Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntington Valley,
Pa./Lower Moreland) hit a layup and Henry drained a triple
to stretch the lead to five before a Pat
O'Connell layup cut the deficit to three at the
break.
A Farber-Miller basket 30 seconds into the second half trimmed the
deficit to one but that's as close as the Blue Jays would
get.
Clinging to a 32-31 lead, four straight points from McKay keeped a
10-2 run that stretched the lead to 42-33 with 9:13 to play en
route to the 16-point win.
Henry dished out a career-best six assists to go with his seven
points, four rebouns and three steals.
