WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ali Moreland (Davidsonville,
Md./South River) netted 15 points to go with nine
rebounds, leading McDaniel to a 65-56 victory over Dickinson in
Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on
Tuesday.
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
added 12 pointss and 10 rebounds for the Green Terror (8-6, 6-3
CC), who staved a rally by the Red Devils (7-7, 5-3 CC) that saw
the hosts close the deficit from 11 to four before hitting eight
free throws in the final minute to win by nine.
Brooke Muller and Alesha Sisco
recorded 16 points apiece to lead Dickinson, which also got 13
points from Carole Dempsey.
Trailing 19-16 on a Dempsey jumper with 8:37 showing in the first
half, McDaniel put together a 12-0 run to turn the three-point
deficit into a nine-point advantage just 5 minutes, 14 seconds
later.
The Red Devils tallied six of the half's final nine points to
close with 30-25 at the intermission and Dempsey hit a 15-foot
jumper on the squad's first possession of the second half to
close to within three but four points from Moreland, including one
of her two 3-pointers, keyed a 12-4 run that pushed the lead out to
11 with 15:53 to play.
Holding its 11-point lead at 52-41 with 7:37 on the clock, the Red
Devils put together a 7-0 run over the next 2:27 to close within
four.
Despite not hitting a field goal for the final 10:27, the Greeen
Terror extended its lead with a 12-for-15 showing from the charity
stripe after Dickinson closed to within four.
Moreland added three assists and four steals for McDaniel while
Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop
Spalding) chipped in nine points and eight
rebounds.
The Green Terror grabbed a season-high 52 rebounds and finished the
contest with a 52-28 advantage on the boards.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on
Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.
