WESTMINSTER, Md. – Whitney Snoops (Millersville,
Md./Archbishop Spalding) recorded 17 points and eight
rebounds to lead McDaniel to a 59-52 victory over Haverford in
Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on
Saturday.
Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River)
added 14 points for the Green Terror (7-6, 5-3 CC), who used a 21-5
run following a technical foul on the bench to turn a seven-point
deficit into a nine-point lead 6 minutes, 49 seconds
later.
Brittany Lattisaw led the Fords (2-9, 1-6 CC) with
21 points and 10 rebounds after a 28-point performance against the
Green Terror earlier in the season.
Kathleen Abels hit one of the two ensuing free
throws after the technical with 14:45 remaining in the contest to
give Haverford a 33-26 lead.
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
hit a layup 31 seconds later to start the rally and Moreland
converted a second-chance basket before Abels stretched the lead
back to six with a triple at the other end.
Two baskets from Lyles and a Moreland jumper knotted the game at 36
before Abels hit at the other end for the Fords' final lead
of the game.
A Kim Staub (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) jumper
with 11:08 on the clock ignited an 11-0 burst over the next 3:12 to
give McDaniel its largest cushion of the game.
The Green Terror led by as many as 13 on two Sally Grace
(Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) free throws with
2:12 on the clock en route to the seven-point win.
Trailing 6-2 nearly three minutes into the game, Snoops keyed a
13-2 run with nine points to give McDaniel a 15-8 lead with 14:20
to play in the first half.
Haverford countered with a 13-0 stretch of its own to take a
six-point advantage seven minutes later.
Snoops halted the burst with her 10th and
11th points of the half but the Fords did not trail for
the remainder of the half, taking a slim 25-24 edge into the
break.
Moreland added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals to her
14 points. Lyles finished with eight points and nine
rebounds.
The Green Terror returns to action at Dickinson on Tuesday. Game
time is 7:30 p.m.
