McDaniel to a 65-57 victory over Washington (Md.) in Centennial
Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Thursday.
Kara Smith (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) added a
eight points on 3-for-3 shooting to go with four assists for the
Green Terror (6-6, 4-3 CC), who built a 17-point advantage before
seeing the Shorewomen (8-3, 3-2 CC) claw within five points in the
second half.
Brianne Slizofski netted 13 points for Washington
while Jessica Jamrogowicz chipped in nine points,
seven assists and four steals. Meghan Tait added
10 points and four steals.
After two Slizofski free throws staked the Shorewomen to an early
advantage, Moreland finished a Catherine Mills (Ijamsville,
Md./Urbana) feed to knot the game at 2-all.
Meghan Lepley gave Washington its final lead at
4-2 before Kim Acton's (Severna Park, Md./Severna
Park) jumper with 14:48 on the clock sparked an 18-2 run
over the next 5 minutes, 23 seconds to give the hosts a 20-6
lead.
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
had all six of her first-half points during the run while Moreland
capped the stretch a fastbreak basket-and-foul.
One of Smith's two 3-pointers stretched the lead to 34-18
with 2:46 to play in the opening stanza before the Shorewomen
reeled off the next six points to close within 10 in the
half's final minute but a Meredith Larsen (Phoenix,
Md./Bryn Mawr) 3-pointer in the left corner stretched the
Green Terror advantage to 37-24 at the intermission.
Five straight points from Tait capped a 14-8 stretch that pulled
Washington within 50-45 with 9:24 to play.
After nearly two minutes with a combined six turnovers and five
missed shots, Moreland canned a third-chance 3-pointer to stretch
the lead back to eight.
After the Shorewomen once again pulled within five, baskets from
three different McDaniel players stretched the lead back to double
figures en route to just its second win in the last five
games.

– its best shooting half of the season – before
finishing at 48.1 percent for the game.
