COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St.
Vincent Pallotti) netted 12 points to lead McDaniel to a
54-44 victory over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC)
women's basketball action on Saturday.
Alli Rosati led the Bears (3-8, 1-3 CC) with a
game-high 14 points to go along with a team-best eight
rebounds.
Sally Grace (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales
Academy) added 10 points and career high-tying six assists
for the Green Terror (5-5, 3-2 CC), who outscored Ursinus 8-2 in
the final 1:36 of the contest to seal its first victory of
2009.
Trailing 30-28 on a Carolyn Konstanzer putback
with 14:21 remaining, Whitney Snoops (Millersville,
Md./Archbishop Spalding) laid in a Grace miss to knot the
game at 30.
On the squad's next possession, Catherine Mills
(Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) hit a 19-foot jump shot from the
right wing to give McDaniel a 32-30 advantage.
After a Ryann Burke jumper out of a timeout at the
other end, Grace netted five of the Green Terror's next seven
points to help stretch her team's lead to 39-32 with 10:24 to
play.
A Kelsey Franklin (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll)
layup off a pass through traffic pushed the lead to 44-36 with 7:48
showing.
A Rosati layup and Kristy George 3-pointer made it
a 46-44 contest with 1:59 showing.
A Kim Staub (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) jumper
with the shot clock winding down and Ali Moreland
(Davidsonville, Md./South River) layup gave McDaniel a
50-44 advantage before Grace and Staub each canned two free throws
to secure the win.
Baskets from Lyles, Moreland and Mills in the game's first
2:45 allowed the Green Terror to open up a 6-0 lead.
McDaniel maintained a lead between two and six points before two
George free throws with 1:09 to play in the opening half cut the
Ursinus deficit to 20-19.
Meredith Larsen (Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr) pushed
the lead back to three but George responded with a jumper of her
own to make it a 22-21 game at halftime.
Lyles and Rosati exchanged points to open the second half before
Julie Brown's jumper with 17:29 on the clock
gave the Bears their first lead of the game.
A Rosati free throw pushed the lead to do before two Lyles charity
tosses knotted the game at 28.
Snoops led McDaniel with eight rebounds to go with four
points.
The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Tuesday. Game
time is 7 p.m.
