COLLEGEVILLE, Md. – Chad
Arrington (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) netted
14 points, including five in the waning minutes to help McDaniel
upend 21st-ranked Ursinus 84-72 in Centennial Conference
(CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (8-3, 3-1 CC) jumped out to a 36-29 halftime
advantage en route to handing the Bears (6-5, 2-2 CC) their fourth
straight loss overall and first in Collegeville since late in the
2006-07 season.
Josh McKay (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech)
and Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North
County) led McDaniel with 16 points apiece while
John Noonan paced Ursinus with 25
points.
Trailing 10-9 on a Keith Page layup with
12:34 remaining in the first half, Louis Sarris-Grau
(Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) hit a layup of his
own to start a 7-0 run, giving McDaniel a 16-10 lead with 10:35
remaining in the first half – an advantage it would not
relinquish.
The Green Terror stretched the lead to as many as eight on three
different occasions in the first half en route to a seven-point
edge at the intermission.
A Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) 3-pointer
18 seconds out of the locker room pushed the lead to double digits
for the first time.
After a Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis School)
jumper gave McDaniel a 59-46 lead with 9:18 showing, the Bears
netted the next five points to close the deficit to
eight.
Noonan hit a triple with 4:29 on the clock pulled the hosts within
68-61 but could get no closer down the stretch.
The Green Terror, who shot 58.1 percent from the line in the game,
hit 9 of 12 free throws in the game's final 1:34 to secure
the win.
Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) recorded
10 points and six assists for McDaniel. Arrington added 10
rebounds, three assists and four steals.
The Green Terror tallied 21 assists on 31 baskets while commiting
only eight turnovers.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall
on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
