STEVENSON, Md. – Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis
School) tallied 13 points to lead McDaniel to a 55-41
men's basketball victory over Frostburg in the fifth-place
game of the 2008 Provident Pride of Maryland tournament at
Stevenson on Sunday.
T.J. Odunlami (Columbia, Md./Atholton) chipped in
12 points for the Green Terror (3-1), who opened up a 14-point
first-half lead before withstanding a rally by the Bobcats (2-2)
early in the second half.
Keith Hazel led Frostburg with a double-double,
contributing 13 points and 10 points.
Keyed by six points from Henry and an Odunlami jumper, McDaniel
opened the game on an 8-0 run before Korawn Harris
drove down the right side of the lane and hit a layup with 15:12 to
play in the opening half.
A Busha Koffa layup trimmed the Bobcat deficit to
within 8-4 but Steve Wilson (Lebanon, N.J./North
Hunterdon) hit on a slashing layup and Ryan Finch
(Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) hit a jumper to push the lead
back to eight.
Five straight Frostburg points closed the gap to 12-9 midway
through the period but the Green Terror countered with a 17-6 run
over the next 6 minutes, 43 seconds to open up a 29-15 lead with
3:17 showing on the first-half clock.
Four of Miguel Jones' (Baltimore, Md./North
County) seven first-half points capped the
run.
The Bobcats netted seven of the stanza's final nine points to
pull to within 31-22 at the half.
Frostburg continued its rally, capping a 16-3 run that spanned both
halves with a Steven Ogg putback that pulled his
team within 32-31 with 13:56 to play.
Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower
Moreland) netted all seven of his points over the next 2
minutes, 17 seconds to swell the lead back to eight en route to the
14-point win.
Wilson finished with a career-high 12 rebounds for McDaniel while
Josh McKay (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) added six
points and eight rebounds.
Odunlami was named to the all-tournament team after contributing 42
points over the three games.
The Green Terror opens the Centennial Conference slate at
Swarthmore on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
