WESTMINSTER, Md. – Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown,
Md./North Carroll) scored at the 8:42 mark and the
McDaniel defense held No. 23 Mary Washington off the board for a
1-0 victory in non-conference men's soccer action on
Wednesday.
Michael Radcliffe (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall)
made two saves for the Green Terror (4-6-1), who won back-to-back
games – both 1-0 decisions – for the first time this
season and handed the Eagles (7-3-2) their first loss in eight
games.
Off a Mary Washington corner in the ninth minute, McDaniel's
Adam Sommers (Frostburg, Md./Beall) took the ball
away and countered up the field before playing the ball through the
defense to Wineke, who slid the ball into the lower-right corner of
the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles held an 11-3 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 edge
in the second half, but could not find the back of the net. Mary
Washington finished with a 5-1 advantage in corner
kicks.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Franklin &
Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
