WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kellye Schroeder
recorded 30 of Susquehanna's 81 digs to lead her team to a
3-1 victory over McDaniel in non-conference volleyball action on
Wednesday.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) led the
Green Terror (6-9) with 14 kills while Kristie Fourcade
(Ijamsville, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) tallied 14
assists and 15 digs.
Lindsey Jankiewicz led the Crusaders (17-7) on
attack with 18 kills.
With her team trailing 2-1 early in the first set,
Alexandra Downing used five McDaniel errors to aid
in serving seven straight points, giving Susquehanna an 8-2
lead.
Kills from Erin McMahon and Jankiewicz helped
stretch the lead to 12-3 en route to a 25-21 victory.
Four straight service points from Herrgott pulled the Green Terror
within 17-14 but the squad could get no closer than two down the
stretch.
In the second set, neither team established a lead of larger than
three points but it was an 8-3 run midway through the set that
turned an 11-9 deficit into a 17-14 advantage for the Crusaders,
who took a 2-0 lead in the match, 25-22.
Three straight Susquehanna attacking errors, including back-to-back
points as a result of block assists by Sara Hanlon
(Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Kristen
Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy), helped
McDaniel open up a 4-1 lead in the set that it never relinquished
en route to a 25-22 set victory, forcing a fourth set.
Downing and Schroeder keyed a set-opening 10-2 run by the Crusaders
and the visitors never looked back, clinching the match with a
25-14 win.
Nuckles added 17 assists for the Green Terror while Katie
Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York) recorded 17 digs.
Herrgott added seven total blocks to her 14 kills.
McDaniel returns to action at Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr on Saturday.
