David Sartin

Sartin was named interim head coach at McDaniel on June 7, 2023. He begins his 26th season as a college football coach and his third at McDaniel after serving two seasons as the offensive line coach.

Prior to McDaniel, Sartin spent two seasons at Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan where he served as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.

Sartin spent 10 seasons as the offensive line coach at Michigan Tech from 2009-18, mentoring 17 All-GLIAC selections and one All-American. In 2014, he helped lead the Huskies to the NCAA Division II Football Championship for the first time in 10 years.

From 2006-08, Sartin was the scout team coordinator and assistant offensive line coach at Division II Grand Valley State. During that time, the Lakers posted a 38-2 overall record and won three GLIAC championships and advancing to the NCAA postseason each year. They won a national championship in 2006 and were a national semifinalist in 2007.

Prior to Grand Valley State, Sartin spent six years at North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. He spent the 2001 and 2002 as the defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach before being elevated to associate head coach in 2003. During his last four seasons, he also served as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

Sartin started his coaching career in 1997 as a student assistant at Mount Union when the Purple Raiders won their third national championship. He then moved on to Wartburg in 1998 where he coached the defensive line and was in charge of academic guidance for three seasons. The Knights went 28-3 and qualified for the NCAA Division III Football Championship in 1999. That year, defensive lineman Anthony Souhrada earned All-America honors.

A 1998 graduate of Mount Union, Sartin played four seasons as an offensive tackle for the Purple Raiders as they posted a 50-3 overall record. They qualified for the NCAA postseason each year while winning the program’s first two national championships in 1993 and 1996. He went on to earn his bachelor of science degree in physical education and health.
