HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Junior
Taevon LeGrande totaled 21 tackles as the McDaniel College football team fell on the road at Juniata Saturday in a non-conference contest inside Knox Stadium, 28-7.
The Green Terror (1-2) suffered their first loss in the last four meetings against the Eagles and the first on the road in the series since Nov. 1, 2014.
LeGrande is just the sixth player in program history to record at least 20 tackles in a game for McDaniel and the first since Ron Ringgold also had 21 at Randolph-Macon on Oct. 22, 2005. The program record for tackles in a game is 26 set by Jim Menendez versus Lycoming on Oct. 25, 1980.
LeGrande had 12 solo and nine assisted tackles to go along with four tackles for loss and a sack.
The Green Terror scored the game's opening touchdown on a 25-yard run by sophomore
Jack Penzone with 8:25 remaining in the first quarter on the team's second drive.
The Eagles (1-2) scored 28 consecutive points, including 21 on three of their final four drives of the first half to take a 21-7 halftime lead. They had just 17 yards on 10 plays on their first two drives before totaling 146 on 20 plays on their next three as they scored three consecutive touchdowns.
Juniata forced two turnovers on back-to-back McDaniel possessions to start the second quarter with each resulting in a touchdown.
The Eagles opened the second half with a nine-play, 77-yard drive to extend its lead to 28-7 before the McDaniel defense limited the home team to just 50 yards of total offense the rest of the way.
Sophomore
David Smith came up with an interception on the first play of Juniata's second possession of the second half with 9:13 left in the third quarter.
The Green Terror combined for 100 yards rushing for the second time in three games this season while three different quarterbacks saw action, including freshman
Peter Sherman.
McDaniel heads into its bye week before returning to action at home on Saturday, Oct. 3 against Carnegie Mellon on Homecoming. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
