Boden Homer Highlights Final Day of Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior Caitlin Boden hit the first home run of the season for the McDaniel College softball team to highlight the final day of competition at The Spring Games.

The Green Terror (4-11) rallied in the fifth inning before dropping the opener to the Lancers (3-6).

Game 1: Worcester State 7, McDaniel 4

Boden hit a solo home run in the first inning for the team's first homer of the season. The Lancers tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI-double to make the score 1-1. 

Two runs came across to score in the second inning for Worcester State to take the lead. The Lancers broke the tie on a sacrifice fly and added another run on a fielding error to go ahead 3-1. Another two-run frame in the fourth gave the Lancers a 5-1 advantage.

McDaniel rallied in the fifth with a three-run inning, scoring on an RBI-single from senior Ryan Smith and a two-run single from first-year Emma McPherson to cut the deficit to one, 5-4. Worcester State hit a two-run homer in the fifth for the game's final margin.

Boden finished the opener 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. McPherson had a base hit and two RBIs while Smith had an RBI and a hit in three at-bats. Senior Taylor Applefeld had a hit and a walk in the loss.

Sophomore Ally McBride took the loss in the circle, totaling six strikeouts, two walks, three earned runs and eight hits.

Game 2: Coe 10, McDaniel 0

The Kohawks (12-6) scored early on an error in the first inning, and took control of the game in the second with a nine-run frame. Coe scored on multiple two-run singles, an RBI-triple, and a two-run double to make the score 10-0. The Green Terror were held without a hit in the loss and recorded only a single baserunner on a walk from senior Sariah Guevara.

Junior Amy Anderson took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on nine hits while striking out one and walking two. Junior Arianna Kelly pitched 3.1 innings in relief, walking two and allowing three base hits.

The Green Terror return to the Softball Park on Wednesday to face Penn State Altoona in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
