WESTMINSTER, Md. - On Tuesday, McDaniel College Director of Athletics
Jeremy Shepherd announced that
Kendall Luy has been hired as the new Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach. She will oversee both the men's and women's programs.

Luy comes to Westminster after serving as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at FDU-Florham in Madison, N.J. since July 2021.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kendall Luy to McDaniel College as our new head coach for track & field and cross country," said Shepherd. "With a wealth of coaching experience and a proven history of developing student-athletes both on and off the track, Kendall brings the leadership and vision needed to elevate the Green Terror programs to new heights. We're excited for the future under Kendall's guidance."

In 17 years as a college coach, Luy has mentored 17 all-region selections, 14 conference champions, eight ECAC champions, and five track & field national qualifiers, including the silver medalist in the men's shot put at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships who was also the Penn Relays champion that year.

Luy also has great experience in meet management, hosting the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, 2016 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, 2012 CAC Cross Country Championships, and the 2009 Mason-Dixon Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Luy was the first head coach in the history of men's and women's track & field at FDU, starting the programs in 2022-23. That year, the men earned three medals and had two conference champions at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships while the women earned six medals, three indoor and three outdoor.

The men also had three United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Metro Region selections and earned six medals, including gold in the high jump at the 2023 ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The second year saw Luy lead the men to five conference medals, the ECAC champion in high jump and triple jump outdoors, and five USTFCCCA All-Metro Region honors. They also had the first national qualifier in program history as D'Maari Brown participated in the triple jump at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The women earned five medals, including two golds in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles at the 2024 ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. They also had two USTFCCCA All-Metro Region selections and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.

This spring, Luy oversaw two USTFCCCA All-Metro Region selections for the men, and three conference medalists, two USTFCCCA All-Metro Region selections and the 400-meter champion at the 2025 ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the women.

Prior to FDU, Luy served as the head men's and women's track & field coach at Division III Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas from 2017-21. She was tasked with starting the Mountaineers' women's track & field program and restarting the men's track and field program. Luy was also the assistant coach for the men's and women's cross country teams before being promoted to head coach prior to the 2019 season.

Luy is no stranger to the state of Maryland, serving as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at Frostburg State University from 2008-17. She was also an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation teaching the psychology of human performance.

As a student-athlete, Luy competed at Division III Susquehanna University where she was a provisional qualifier in the javelin for the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She earned four all-conference selections for the River Hawks, including an All-MAC First Team honor in the javelin as a sophomore in 2006.

Luy earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Susquehanna in May 2008 and her master's in counseling psychology from Frostburg State in May 2011.

A native of Elizabethtown, Pa., Luy holds a USA Track & Field Coaching Education Level 1 certification and Track & Field Technical Certification from the USTFCCCA. She also participated in the NCAA Women's Leadership Symposium.

"This is an exciting time for these programs with the renovation of the track and I'm looking forward to seeing what records we can set as we head into a new era," added Luy.
