Buttons, Smith Lead Women's Tennis to Two Wins Over Trinity

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Led by Freshman Stephanie Buttons and Senior Rachel Smith led the McDaniel College women's tennis team to two wins sweeping almost all matches in two non-conference contests versus Trinity Washington Sunday at the Warfield Tennis Courts. 

The Green Terror picked up two wins after sweeping Trinity Washington 0-7 in the first contest and winning 1-6 in the second. 

In the first contest, Buttons won her No. 1 singles match defeating Sydney Ware 0-8. Along with Buttons, Smith took down Ware and Florence Njoroge in No. 1 doubles 0-6. Smith would beat Njoroge 1-8 in No. 2 singles. 

Senior Mackenzie McCarter and Sophomore Emma Janisch swept their No. 2 doubles match 0-6. Both McCarter and Janisch won their singles match 0-8. 

Junior Leah Somerville won her singles match 1-8 over Dora Alvarez. Freshman Caroline Forsythe defeated Shahara Coy 0-8. Forsythe also teamed up with Senior Nakayla Lawson to take down Alvarez and Coy 0-6. 

In the second contest, Buttons won 0-8 in No. 1 singles over Ware. In No. 1 doubles Smith and McCarter won 3-6 over Ware and Njoroge.  

Somerville defeated Njoroge in a close 6-8 match in No. 2 singles action. Lawson won 1-8 over De La Paz Charco. Somerville and Lawson won the No. 2 doubles match 2-6 over De La Paz Charco and Camacho-Mendez. 

Forsythe won her singles match 1-8 over Camacho-Mendez. Junior Jayla Pickeral picked up a 5-8 win over Kyliah White. 

Junior Gracie Hill lost in a close 8-5 match against Alvarez. In a very close No. 3 doubles match Hill and Pickeral fell to Daodu Zion and White 7-5. 

The Green Terror returns to action Saturday September 21st at Arcadia with a 1 PM start time.
