McDaniel Concludes Season With 18-7 Loss to Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Washington College scored eight unanswered goals in the third quarter as the Shorewomen posted an 18-7 victory over the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team Saturday at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

The Green Terror (4-12, 1-8 CC) won 19 of 29 draw controls and trailed by just three at halftime before Washington outscored McDaniel 8-0 in the third quarter.

Junior Emma Miller led the way offensively with two goals, one assist and nine draw controls. She finished the season with 121 draw controls, surpassing the previous program record by 10. She now has 283 career draw controls and will begin next season just 17 shy of the school record.

Miller also finished this year with 82 career goals, 18 shy of becoming the 17th player in program history with 100.

McDaniel led 3-2 with 4:26 remaining in the first quarter following back-to-back goals from junior Emma Legacy and freshman Jordon Gambrill.

However, the Shorewomen scored the next six goals to take an 8-3 lead before the Green Terror closed the half with back-to-back tallies from Legacy and Miller just 34 seconds apart to cut their deficit to three at halftime.

Washington held a slim 19-12 edge in shots in the first 30 minutes while senior Astrid Jensen totaled five of her eight saves.

In the decisive third quarter, the Shorewomen held a 12-3 advantage in shots and won six of nine draw controls.

Trailing 16-7 after three, McDaniel scored the first two goals to start the fourth with Miller tallying the first and assisting freshman Kat Thayer on the second.

Thayer and Legacy each scored twice while Legacy added three draw controls and one caused turnover. Sophomore Kayonna Cook totaled two ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Jensen finished with eight saves, one shy of her career high set against Dickinson on April 19. She also had three ground balls.
