McDaniel 10, Clarkson 3
The Green Terror (1-3) scored seven unanswered runs over the final five innings to break open a 3-3 tie en route to their first win.
Led by a two-run single by senior
Kylie Sears in the bottom of the first, McDaniel jumped out to a 3-1 lead before the Golden Knights (1-2) drove in a pair of runs with back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the second.
However, Sears drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the third when she reached on a fielder's choice and Craig scored on a Clarkson throwing error. Junior
Mandy Butz drove in another run with a sacrifice fly that scored junior
Paytyn Hazelton to put the Green Terror in front, 5-3 after three.
McDaniel plated three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch its lead to five, highlighted by a two-run double to center by junior
Makayla Calamita.
Senior
Colleen Camburn scored on a throwing error in the fifth and Hazelton had an RBI-single in the sixth to provide the final margin.
In the circle, senior
Parker Murphy picked up the win, scattering eight hits over 7.0 innings while striking out four and allowing just two earned runs.
Craig led three players with multiple hits as she went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Calamita was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs while Hazelton went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Sears drove in four RBIs and Butz totaled two with an RBI-single and sacrifice fly.
#3 Salisbury 3, McDaniel 1
The Green Terror took an early 1-0 lead against the Sea Gulls with a run in the top of the second when freshman
Taylor Coyle scored the team's lone run on a throwing error.
However, Salisbury (10-0) immediately responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI-single and RBI-triple. That would be all the host Sea Gulls would need as two pitchers combined to limit McDaniel to just one unearned run on four hits.
Savannah Sheats improved to 3-0 as she retired 12 of the 17 batters she faced, allowing just two hits and striking out three over 4.0 innings. Lindsey Windsor earned her first save after allowing just two hits and striking out three over 3.0 scoreless innings.
Sylvester totaled two of the four hits for the Green Terror, going 2-for-3. Craig and Sears each went 1-for-3 while Hazelton drew the team's only walk.
Senior
Mel Grant limited Salisbury to just two earned runs, scattering nine hits over 6.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, March 11 with a doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite. First pitch is at 1:30 p.m.
