WESTMINSTER, Md. - Led by three first-half goals from junior
Emma Miller, the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team opened Centennial Conference play with a 9-6 victory over Bryn Mawr Saturday at Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (4-4, 1-0 CC) posted their third win in five home games this season, outscoring the Owls 7-4 over the final three quarters.
Miller, who finished with five points on four goals and one assist, scored three goals in the first half as McDaniel opened up a 6-4 advantage at halftime.
After Bryn Mawr (5-1, 0-1 CC) took its first lead on Sloan Johnson's second goal of the game with 11:40 remaining in the second quarter, the Green Terror scored four of the next five. Miller had a hand in three of those with two goals and one assist.
McDaniel scored the first three goals of the second half to stretch its lead to five with two third-quarter tallies from freshmen
Charlotte Alexander and
Kat Thayer. Alexander finished with one goal and one assist for her her the first multi-point game of her career while Thayer had two goals to mark her first career multi-goal game.
The Green Terror out-shot the Owls 14-6 in the second half while forcing 16 turnovers and winning five of seven draw controls. Senior
Acadia Noll led the team with two caused turnovers while adding three draw controls and one ground ball.
Freshman
Caleigh Kohr improved her record to 3-1 in six starts this season in goal, posting four first-half saves, including three in the second quarter. Senior
Astrid Jensen made her seventh appearance of the season in the second half and finished with two saves.
Junior
Emma Legacy turned in a well-rounded performance with one goal, one assist, two points, three ground balls and three draw controls while sophomore
Paris Conord scored a goal for the second-straight game and fourth in her last five.
McDaniel continues conference play next Saturday, April 1 when the team travels to Ursinus for a 3 p.m. start.
