Passing Game Highlights 27-17 Loss to Franklin & Marshall

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Freshman Angel Granado Jr threw for a career-high 269 yards, but Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 17-point second quarter lead and held on for a 27-17 victory over the McDaniel College football team Saturday on Rembert Field at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (0-7, 0-4 CC) totaled 365 yards of total offense and had eight different players with a reception as Granado completed 28-of-47 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He was also sacked just twice in 47 attempts.

Graduate student Sean Carter was Granado's top target as he hauled in eight catches for 83 yards. He now has 99 career receptions as he looks to become just the 10th player in program history with 100 catches. He also now has 50 catches this season, the eighth-most in a single season in team history.

The Diplomats (5-2, 2-2 CC) scored on their first four possessions, including a touchdown off a McDaniel turnover. They totaled 192 yards on 23 plays for an average of 8.3 yards per play as the visitors led 20-3 with 9:43 remaining in the second quarter.

The Green Terror began to mount a comeback on the ensuing drive as senior Hunter Sigler scored on an 11-yard pass from Granado on their ensuing possession to cut the deficit in half before the defense forced a fumble to set up a field goal attempt with nine seconds remaining in the half. However, the kick sailed wide left and Franklin & Marshall escaped with a 10-point advantage into halftime.

McDaniel had a second chance to cut into the lead as it received the opening kickoff, but a fumble on the first play from scrimmage gave the Diplomats the ball at the Green Terror 26-yard line. Three plays later, Ty Tremba connected with Jack Sutton from 14 yards out to increase the visitors' lead to 27-10.

Tremba finished the game completing 12-of-20 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 52 yards and another score.

With Franklin & Marshall leading by 17 with 13:16 left in the third quarter, neither team could do anything over their next three drives as they combined for four punts and two turnovers on downs. With 2:30 to play in the fourth, Granado found freshman Logan Marsh from 14 yards out to cap an 11-play, 89-yard drive that provided the final margin.

Like Carter, Marsh also finished with eight catches and totaled 51 yards and his fourth touchdown of the season.

Granado added 58 yards rushing on 16 carries while senior Trent Gaskins totaled 101 all-purpose yards with 38 rushing and 63 receiving.

Seniors Kori Bryant and Matt Carey had nine tackles each to lead a defense that allowed just 143 yards on 35 plays (4.1 avg.) over the Diplomats' final seven drives. Carey added a tackle for loss and two pass breakups. Junior Mike Cunningham had four tackles, including two for loss, one sack, a forced fumble and two quarterback hurries.

Next week, McDaniel faces Ursinus on the road for the second-straight season. Kickoff from Patterson Field is at 1 p.m.
