THE SKINNY STORY
Catholic scored the final 40 points of the game, including outscoring McDaniel 24-0 in the second half, for a 40-7 victory in the season opener for both teams.
THE LEADERS
• Nah'shon Godfrey (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) led the Green Terror defense with eight tackles.
• Marcus Sessoms (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) made two catches for 27 yards, including his first career touchdown grab.
FOR THE FOES
• Madden Lowe led the Cardinals with a 41-for-55 day passing, throwing for 433 yards and five scores.
• Mark Cheffers made eight grabs for 93 yards.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a scoreless first quarter, Kevin Sheckells (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) capped a 14-play, 80-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Sessoms for a 7-0 lead just 1:26 into the second period.
• Catholic responded with a 69-yard drive but McDaniel got a stop on fourth-and-goal from the one to take over on downs. A holding call in the end zone, however, on the offense's first play resulted in a safety to make it a 7-2 game with 8:57 on the clock.
• The Cardinals started at their own 33 on the ensuing drive but needed just seven plays to cover the 67 yards. Madden Lowe found Andrew Comeau from two yards out for a 9-7 lead with 7:05 to play.
• After a three-and-out, Catholic put together another 11-play, 70-yard drive capped with a Preston Jeffrey 22-yard touchdown grab to make it 16-7 just 1:07 before the break.
• A 15-yard Derrick Aikens 15-yard touchdown reception capped a 92-yard drive on the Cardinals' first possession of the second half.
• Andrew Comeau made it 30-7 with a six-yard scoring grab with 2:36 on the third-quarter clock.
• Aikens caught a second touchdown pass two plays into the fourth quarter before a Fabrizio Reilly 31-yard field goal with 1:02 to play set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Catholic outgained McDaniel 502-206, including 433-94 through the air.
• Daqwan Hill (Germantown, Md./The Avalon School) rushed seven times for 33 yards.
• Diondre Carter (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) had 116 yards on five kickoff returns.
