Furgeson throws for career-high 262 on Homecoming

THE SKINNY
Ursinus rallied with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to come-from-behind and defeat McDaniel 18-14 in a rain-filled Homecoming game.

THE LEADERS
John Allan Furgeson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) had his first career 200-yard passing day with 262 yards on 22 of 37 passing. He also threw a pair of touchdown passes.
• Hunter Sigler (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) caught six passes for a career-high 91 yards.
Nah'shon Godfrey (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) had 13 tackles, an interception, and pass breakup.

FOR THE FOES
• Samuel Ragland ran the ball 27 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
• Anthony Trazzera led the defense with 12 tackles.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a first quarter that featured four turnovers and three turnovers on downs, McDaniel scored on the first play of the second period. John Allan Furgeson hit Cameron Garcia (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) for an 18-yard touchdown and 7-0 lead.
• A second Ursinus interception set up the Bear offense at the McDaniel 29 with 8:55 on the second-quarter clock. Four plays later, Samuel Ragland powered home a three-yard run to make it 7-6 with 7:21 showing but the PAT was wide.
• Forcing a turnover on downs deep in its own end with 2:02 to play in the opening half, Furgeson engineered a nine-play drive that covered 77 yards in 1:38, going 6-for-7 on the drive. The last one was a completion to Sean Carter (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) in the middle of the end zone for a 10-yasrd touchdown snag and 14-6 lead at the break.
• Another Bear interception set up Ursinus at the McDaniel 41 with 10:40 to play in the fourth quarter. After a 23-yard pass play to Octavius Carter, two Ragland carries and a eight-run run by Joshua Bowman made it a 14-12 game with 9:13 showing but the Bears missed on the potential game-tying two-point play.
• After yet another turnover on the ensuing McDaniel possession, Ursinus went 54 yards in four plays – the last 24 coming off the left side by Ragland for an 18-14 lead with 2:12 to play.

THE INSIDE STORY
• There were nine combined turnovers in the game.
Diondre Carter (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) rushed for a career-high 106 yards on 28 carries. It was the first 100-yard rushing game for a Green Terror running back since Oct. 27, 2018.

NEXT UP
McDaniel returns to action at Susquehanna on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
