• Samantha Merkel (Baltimore, Md./Winters Mill) finished 22nd with a time of 21:23.1.
• Megan Mesick (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) placed 31st with a time of 21:44.9.
• Julia Murphy (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was 43rd overall with a time of 22:55.4.
FOR THE FOES
• Samantha Yates won the race with a time of 18:44.6 to lead Washington and Lee to the team title (43 points).
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Jill Shephard (Monkton, Md./North Harford) placed 62nd with a time of 24:16.9.
• Sarah Case (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) finished 92nd with a time of 28:12.2 in her first collegiate 5,000-meter race.
THE INSIDE STORY
• At the 5,000-meter distance, 111 runners competed on the course.
• Samantha Merkel turned in the eighth-best time on the course, bettering her time last year by 27 seconds.
• Megan Mesick posted her best collegiate 5K time and was the Green Terror's No. 9 time all-time on the course.
