Oliveto matches career receptions record

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna jumped out to a 24-0 lead en route to a 44-15 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.

Mike Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) led the Green Terror (0-9, 0-8 CC) with six catches to tie Matt Cahill's program record at 156 career receptions. Oliveto amassed 31 yards to give him 1,879 receiving yards for his career.

Nick Crusco led the Crusaders (4-5, 3-5 CC) with 435 yards passing, completing 33 of 48 passes with three touchdowns. He also ran 10 times for 71 yards.

Susquehanna methodically moved its first drive 87 yards over 15 plays capped by a Colin Buckley third-down reception from five yards out for a 7-0 lead with 8:43 showing.

A 21-yard catch-and-run by Kyle Neuschatz doubled the lead with 3:27 to play, capping a 7-play, 77-yard drive.

The Crusader lead extended to 21-0 on a Diamente Halloway seven-yard touchdown grab with 7:08 to play in the second quarter.

A 28-yard Evan Argiriou field goal with 2:12 to play in the opening half pushed the lead to 24-0.

A 37-yard grab by Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) down the near sideline set up a first down at the Susquehanna 32.

Nine plays later, Will Koester (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) connected with Taylor Wagner (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) on a flair pass for a one-yard touchdown with 7.1 seconds to play in the first half. The two-point conversion attempt failed to keep it a 24-6 game at halftime.

Spencer Wiersberg (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) remained perfect on the season, connecting on a career-long 35-yard field goal attempt to cut the deficit to 24-9 with 11:33 to play in the third quarter.

Argiriou responded with a 30-yard field goal three-and-a-half minutes later to push the lead back to 18.

Facing fourth-and-14 from the Susquehanna 24, Koester hit a sliding Bamasa Bailor (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) in the middle of the end zone to close the deficit to 27-15 with 4:59 showing in the third quarter.

A third Argiriou field goal – this one from 22 yards out – pushed the lead to 30-15 with 1:46 to play.

Nick Crusco ran the final two yards on the 12th play of a 63-yard drive to make it a 37-15 game with 6:04 remaining.

Five Kris Stern rushes accounted for all 38 yards of the next Crusader drive to set the final margin with 3:30 to play.

Koester finished with his third 200-yard passing game in four career starts, completing 25 of 43 passes for 244 yards. Windisch had two grabs for 41 yards while Bailor also made two catches for 40 yards.

Luke Fernandez (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the defense with 12 tackles.

The Green Terror concludes the season at home against No. 11 Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
