Oliveto nabs 13 catches for pair of records

WESTMINSTER, Pa. – Johns Hopkins, ranked eighth in the latest d3football.com poll, took a 28-10 lead at halftime en route to a 49-24 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.

Mike Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) completed his career for the Green Terror (0-10, 0-9 CC) with 13 catches to finish with program records for a career (169) and season (63) receptions. His 13 catches was two shy of the program record for a single game. Oliveto recorded 107 receiving yards on the day, including a 39-yard touchdown.

Stuart Walters ran for 103 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Blue Jays (10-0, 9-0 CC), who wrapped up the outright CC title and won their 31st straight regular season game for a new conference record.

Walters opened up the scoring on a two-yard run with 10:54 to play, cashing in a Dan Johnson interception that gave Johns Hopkins a short field.

Spencer Wiersberg (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) converted a 34-yard field goal to remain perfect for his career, trimming the deficit to 7-3 with 8:01 to play in the first quarter.

A David Brookhart 58-yard catch and run and Walters 10-yard scamper just 2:22 apart stretched the lead to 21-3 with 12:29 remaining in the second quarter.

A Tayahd Campbell (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) one-yard touchdown run made it 21-10 with 31 seconds to play in the first half but the Blue Jays responded before the end of the half.

A 58-yard Donaldson catch set up first-and-goal at the seven-yard line before Jon Germano hit Evan Adamo one play later for a 28-10 lead at the break.

Oliveto capped a 10-play, 77-yard drive to open up the half with his 39-yard touchdown grab to one again trim the deficit to 11.

Walters scored on runs of three yards and one yard to make it a 42-17 game with 5:27 shwoing.

Matt Cathey (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) dove and broke into the end zone on a fourth-down run from two yards out to make it a 42-24 game with 11:04 to play in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Messinger set the final score with a three-yard run with 6:37 to play.

Will Koester (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) threw for 222 yards on 27 of 43 passing. Perry Stefanelli (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) ran for 68 yards on 14 carries.

The Green Terror opens the 2016 season at Catholic on Sept. 3.
