Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Moravian returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and rode that momentum to a 28-7 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) football opener for both teams on Saturday.
Sean Montgomery (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) led the Green Terror (1-1, 0-1 CC) with 69 yards receiving on six catches, including a touchdown.
Eli Redmond paced the Greyhounds (2-0, 1-0 CC) with 222 all-purpose yards, including 109 rushing.
On the opening kickoff, Redmond took the ball at the goalline and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown and 7-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game.
Taking over at their own eight-yard line, the Greyhounds marched 92 yards in 4 minutes, 44 seconds. Chris Negron capped the 12-play drive with a six-yard touchdown run but the extra-point attempt bounced off the upright to keep it a 13-0 game with 12:39 to play in the second quarter.
Off a Noah Miller tipped pass, Richard Kugel pulled in an interception at the Moravian 42 and returned the ball to the McDaniel 36.
After a Mike Hayes 35-yard reception set up first-and-goal at the one-yard line, Jordan Stout made it a 19-0 game with 1:50 on the clock. After a holding penalty, Jalen Snyder-Scipio caught a 16-yard pass on the two-point conversion to make it a 21-0 game.
Another one-yard Stout run capped an 11-play, 72-yard drive on Moravian's first possession of the second half to make it a 28-0 game with 8:49 showing in the third quarter.
Ryan Yamada (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) engineered a 10-play, 70-yard drive to break up the shutout. Yamada found Montgomery for a 22-yard touchdown with 1:43 to play to cap the march.
Mike Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) added six more catches for 72 yards while Tayahd Campbell (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) led the running game with 51 yards.
Luke Fernandez (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the defense with 10 tackles.
The Green Terror opens the home schedule against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
