Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg racked up 527 yards of total offense as part of a 47-7 Centennial Conference (CC) football victory over McDaniel on Saturday.
Sean Montgomery (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) caught a touchdown pass for the Green Terror (1-4, 0-4 CC) for the game's only fourth-quarter points. Matty Callahan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) notched his second straight 200-yard passing day, throwing for 272 yards on 27-for-40 passing. Drew Scott (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) led the defense with a career-high 13 tackles.
Zach Miller paced the Bullets (3-2, 3-1 CC), throwing for 206 yards on 9 of 16 while also running nine times for another 75 yards. Nine different Gettysburg players combined to run for 320 yards on 60 carries.
The hosts took the opening possession down the field with a methodical eight-play drive that covered 62 yards. Fred Caruso capped the drive with a 19-yard reception for a 7-0 lead with 12:35 to play in the opening quarter.
After forcing a three-and-out two possessions later, Gettysburg needed just three plays to drive 62 yards for a 14-0 lead with 4:10 showing. A 45-yard Caruso catch keyed the drive before Nick Ulassin ran the final 19 yards for the score.
Zach Miller paid off a Chris Miller interception that set up the Bullets offense at the McDaniel 20, finding the end zone from one yard out for a 21-0 lead with 8:59 to play in the second quarter.
Facing fourth-and-10 after receiving the free kick following a safety, Miller found Jordan Kelso for a 35-yard touchdown and 30-0 lead with 2:31 to play in the first half.
Miller made it 37-0 at the break with a 19-yard scamper in the final 41 seconds of the first half.
Garrett Long added a 24-yard field goal with 8:02 to play in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 40.
A Danny Christian 47-yard catch and run stretched the lead to 47 just over two minutes later.
Sean Montgomery (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) broke up the shutout with 13:48 on the fourth-quarter clock to cap a 6-play, 91-yard drive with a 61-yard catch and run for his second touchdown of the season.
Jake Fernandez (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) added a career-best eight stops.
The Green Terror is off next week before returning to action at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Oct. 18. Game time is 1 p.m.
