Chamberlin runs for 104, score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored the game's final 24 points for a 31-7 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.

John Chamberlin (Franklinville, N.J./Williamstown) led the Green Terror (1-5, 0-5 CC) with a career-high 104 yards rushing, scoring his team's lone touchdown.

Taalib Gerald paced the Diplomats (3-3, 2-3 CC) with 122 rushing yards on 21 carries, adding three touchdowns.

After an exchange of fumbles deep in their opponents' territory, Jordan Zackery broke a 63-yard bubble screen on Franklin & Marshall's first play to spark a 4-play, 85-play drive.

Gerald took it the final 11 yards on a third-down play for a 7-0 lead with 9:44 to play in the second quarter.

On the Diplomats' first possession of the second half, Duane Lucas, Jr. (Gwynn Oaks, Md./Western Tech) corralled his first career interception on third down to set up his offense at the F&M 35.

One play later, Chamberlin paid off the turnover with a 35-yard sprint up the middle. The Spencer Wiersberg (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) extra-point knotted the game at 7-all with 13:58 to play in the third quarter.

A Connor Ryan 27-yard field goal with 9:03 showing in the third quarter put the hosts back on top, 10-7.

Gerald capped a 49-yard drive with a two-yard scamper off the right tackle to stretch the lead to 17-7 with 3:57 showing in the third quarter.

Gerald made it a three-touchdown game, scoring from two yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 24-7 advantage.

Scott LaValva stretched the lead to 31-7 with a one-yard rush, capping a 7-play, 59-yard drive with 6:59 remaining.

McDaniel recorded 266 yards of total offense on the day, 213 of which came through the game's first 31:02. Nick O'Melia (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) caught five passes for 79 yards.

Franklin & Marshall had a balanced day on offense, recording 223 yards rushing and 207 through the air.

Luke Fernandez (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror defense with eight tackles while Eddie Kendall (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Boro) and Matt Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) added seven.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Dickinson on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
