Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – After going down 7-0, Juniata scored 42 straight point to open up a 42-7 lead early in the fourth quarter en route to a 42-21 Centennial Conference (CC) football victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Mike Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) recorded six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown to lead the Green Terror (1-7, 1-6 CC) in the passing game while Neil DeLuca (Freeland, Md./Hereford) led the way in the run game with 42 yards on nine carries.

Deonte Alston paced the Eagles (5-3, 4-3 CC) with 138 yards on 21 rush attempts while Ward Udinski added 118 on 14 carries. Both had a rushing touchdown while Zach McCaulley scored four times to go with his 56 yards running.

On McDaniel's first play from scrimmage, Joe Rollins (Temple Hills, Md./Surrattsville) broke a run down the far sideline for a 28-yard gain. On the second play, Ryan Yamada (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) hit Oliveto for 24 more yards and the Green Terror was at the Juniata 26.

Two Yamada-to-Sean Montgomery (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) pass plays – one for 10 yards and another for 14 – helped move to the ball inside the two-yard line.

Two Rollins runs resulted in a touchdown and 7-0 lead 4:35 into the game.

Keyed by a 23-yard Deonte Alston run, the Eagles countered immediately, taking the ball 65 yards on six plays in 3:08 to tie the game at 7-all.

A series of turnovers ultimately gave Juniata the ball at the McDaniel 24 with 4:01 to play in the first quarter.

Six plays later, Udinski called his own number for a one-yard score and 14-7 lead with 1:38 remaining in the quarter.

A 12-play, 76-yard drive spanned the final 36 seconds of the first quarter and first 4:55 of the second before Alston found paydirt from three yards out and gave the visitors a 21-7 lead.

After the Green Terror successfully executed an onside kick out of the locker room but couldn't get a first down, Juniata took its first possession of the second half 63 yards in 14 plays, capped by a McCaulley two-yard run with 7:36 on the clock.

An 11-yard McCulley run stretched the lead to 35-7 in the final 30 seconds of the period before his two-yard scamper made it 42 straight in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter.

Seth McFall (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) engineered a five-play, 49-yard drive, hitting Oliveto for a 22-yard score with 6:44 to play for the Green Terror's first points since the first quarter.

McDaniel's next possession also resulted in a touchdown with DeLuca finding the end zone for the first touchdown of his career with 52 seconds left.

Brandon Jones (Middle River, Md./Eastern Tech) led the defense with 12 tackles while Taylor Rush (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) added 11. Luke Fernandez (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) contributed 10 tackles and two pass breakups.

The Green Terror returns to action at Susquehanna on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
