McDaniel shuts out Greyhounds in second half but Moravian takes conference opener, 21-16

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Steve Panasuk threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns to lead Moravian to a 21-16 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.

T.J. Develin (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) rushed for a career-best 148 yards with a pair of touchdowns to key the Green Terror (1-1, 0-1 CC), who racked up 346 yards of total offense.

The McDaniel defense held the Greyhounds (1-1, 1-0 CC) to minus-13 yards of total offense in the second half after 237 yards and 21 points in the first half.

Thomas Massucci (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) threw for 199 yards on 18 of 34 passing, just missing his second straight 200-yard passing game.

On the opening kickoff, Tim McLister (Leesburg, Va./Loudon) forced a fumble to set up the Green Terror offense on the Moravian 26. Four plays later, Develin finished a two-yard run off tackle to put McDaniel on top 7-0 just 1:16 into the game.

Moravian needed just six plays and 3:08 to even the game at 7-all. Panasuk found Shawn Sylvainus on a deep crossing route for a 38-yard touchdown pass to cap the 68-yard drive.

Keyed by a 14-yard rush by Stephen Kircher on a fake punt on fourth-and-6 at the McDaniel 48, Panasuk found Sylvainus for a 30-yard touchdown pass with 22 seconds remaining in the first quarter. A botched snap on the extra-point attempt kept it a 13-7 game at the end of the first quarter.

From his own 35, Massucci found Cahill for a 46-yard pass play to move the offense to the 19-yard line. On a fourth-and-3, the Green Terror came up a yard shot and the Greyhounds took over on downs at their own 10..

On second down, a Philip Redline 39-yard catch-and-run took Moravian into McDaniel territory.

A 15-yard reception by Brian Dencker on the next play coupled with a personal foul penalty put the ball at the Green Terror 17.

Anthony Falco capped the march with a three-yard touchdown run. Panasuk found Dencker wide-open on the left side of the end zone for the two-point conversion and a 21-7 advantage with 8:47 to play in the first half.

A Travis Enrich (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) 41-yard interception gave McDaniel the ball back at the Moravian 21. Three plays later, Develin finished a five-yard run to the outside but a blocked PAT kept it a 21-13 game with 4:37 to play until halftime.

On its first possession of the second half, the Green Terror took the ball 36 yards on 10 plays before settling for a 40-yard field goal from Nick DeLuca (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) with 10:44 to play, closing to within 21-16.

A botched snap on a field-goal attempt and fumble on McDaniel's final two possessions preserved the win for Moravian.

Chris Kolb (Keymar, Md./Francis Scott Key) led the defense with 11 tackles and an interception while Mike Ford (Drexel Hill, Pa./Haverford Twp.) added six tackles, including a career-best 3.5 sacks.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Catholic on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
