Box Score Harrison throws for program-record 404 yards in Diplomats'
41-20 win at McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. - John Harrison threw for a
program-record 404 yards on 26 of 35 passing with five touchdowns
to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 41-20 victory over McDaniel in
Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.
The Diplomats (7-1, 5-1 CC) became the fifth team this season to
roll up more than 400 yards of total offense on the Green Terror
(4-4, 2-4 CC), putting up 437 yards, including 406 through the air.
C.J. Billera (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) caught
seven passes for a career-high 110 yards, including a touchdown, in
the loss for McDaniel.
Tom Massucci (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) had his
fourth 200-yard passing day of the year, completing 16 of 33 passes
for 211 yards and a touchdown. He now has 1,613 yards for the
season, becoming the fifth different Green Terror signal caller to
throw for 1,500 yards in a season. He is the first to do it since
Brad Baer threw for 1,513 in 2006.
After a sluggish start in which the two teams combined for 56
yards over the game's first 7:51, Franklin & Marshall took over
at its own 14.
On a second-and-3 from the 21, Harrison hit Jarrell
Diggs for a 77-yard catch-and-run to put the Diplomats on
the McDaniel 2.
Three plays later, Michael Deutch caught his
first of two touchdown catches from a yard out.
A missed PAT kept it a 6-0 game with 4:09 on the clock.
George Eager capped a 10-play, 75-yard with a
one-yard touchdown catch - his first of two on the day - with 12:17
remaining in the second quarter. Eager finished with 13 catches for
175 yards.
A 16-yard Massucci-to-T.J. Develin (Boyertown,
Pa./Boyertown Area) pass play cut the deficit to 13-7 with
3:37 remaining until the intermission.
On the ensuing Franklin & Marshall possession, Eager caught
a 50-yard strike from Harrison to stretch the lead to 20-7 with
1:05 to play in the half.
A Barry Lovett 62-yard interception return made
it 27-7 with 9:35 to play in the third quarter before Harrison hit
John Kaschak for an 18-yard touchdown late in the
third quarter to make it a 34-7 game.
Eric Zwilsky (Knoxville, Md./Brunswick) broke
off a 29-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter for his
first touchdown of the season. A missed PAT kept it a 34-13 game.
Harrison hit Deutch from seven yards out to make it 41-13 with
9:16 to play before Zach Swope (Jessup,
Md./Hammond) threw his first touchdown of the season,
hitting Billera from 12 yards out with 2:22 on the clock.
Diggs added three catches for 127 yards for the Diplomats.
Zwilsky finished with 51 yards on the ground for McDaniel.
Travis Wenrich (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser)
and Mike Weick (Holland, Pa./Penn Charter) led the
defense with eight tackles apiece.
The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Saturday.
