Box Score Bears post 34 in first half en route to 48-13 win
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Teddy Conrad and
Travis Evans each ran for 133 yards as part of a
276-yard rushing attack in Ursinus' 48-13 win over McDaniel in
Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.
The Bears (4-3, 4-1 CC) finished with 482 yards of total offense
and limited the Green Terror (4-3, 2-3 CC) to a season-low 25 yards
rushing and 263 yards of total offense in front of a rain-soaked
Homecoming crowd.
Matt Cahill (Broomall, Pa./Haverford Twp.) led
the McDaniel offense, catching a career-high nine balls for a
career-best 140 yards and both Green Terror scores.
Ursinus took the opening kickoff a put together a methodical
10-play drive that consumed 5:43 before Conrad capped the march
with the first of his three touchdown runs. A bad snap on the PAT
kept it a 6-0 lead.
The Bears started their next drive at its own 48. Three plays
layer, Justin Decristofaro found Al
Desiderio, who caught five passes for 154 yards, with a
49-yard touchdown strike for a 13-0 lead with 5:43 to play in the
first period.
After an Albert Leech (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) sack on fourth down gave the Green Terror the
ball at its own 41 with 51 seconds left in the quarter,
T.J. Develin (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area)
rushed for seven yards but a late hit gave McDaniel a first down at
the Ursinus 37.
Three plays after a 28-yard catch-and-run, Tom Massucci
(Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) found Cahill on a comeback route
and the senior receiver scampered to the end zone as the first
quarter clock expired.
Desiderio, however, ran back the ensuing kickoff 77 yards to
answer the score and push the lead to 20-7.
A 44-yard Decristofaro-to-Desiderio pass play keyed a 79-yard
drive that stretched the lead to 37-7 with 9:34 to play in the
first half.
Conrad capped that drive with an 11-yard run and the next
Ursinus march with a four-yard run for a 34-7 halftime lead.
Coming back to the first to rain that intensified as the day
went on, the Green Terror went three-and-out on its first drive
before Travis Wenrich (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad
Weiser) forced a fumble on the Bears' next possession to
give his offense the ball back at the Ursinus 38.
Pass plays of 21 yards and 17 yards to Cahill trimmed the
deficit to 34-13 but the extra-point attempt was blocked.
Evans and Conrad accounted for all 51 yards on the ensuing
nine-play Bear drive, pushing the lead to 41-13 with 7:33 to play
in the third quarter.
A 12-yard reception by Woody Butler (Smithsburg,
Md./Middletown) gave the Green Terror the ball at midfield
on the third play of the fourth quarter but a lightning strike
forced the teams from the field.
After a 41-minute delay, McDaniel moved the ball to the Bear 27
but could not convert on fourth-and-16 to turn it over on downs.
Ursinus drove the 73 yards in a 11 plays and consumed 6:49 off
the clock for the final score - an Evans three-yard run to set the
final margin.
Tommy Prazenica (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led
the defense with a career-high 12 tackles.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Franklin &
Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
