BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore Andrew Kase
recorded his second 200-yard rushing day against McDaniel, running
for 211 yards in a 27-10 Centennial Conference (CC) victory on
Saturday.
The Blue Jays (8-2, 6-2 CC) won their eighth straight
against the Green Terror (2-8, 1-7 CC) and will wait until Monday
to see if they have received an ECAC bid.
Johns Hopkins built a 14-0 lead at halftime before
Matt Cahill (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Twp.)
returned a punt 70 yards with 6:37 remaining in the third quarter
to put the visitors on the scoreboard.
Accounting for five of the seven plays on the opening
drive, Kase capped a 55-yard, 2-minute, 10-second drive with an
eight-yard run to stake the hosts to a 7-0 lead with just 2:10
elapsed in the opening period.
Taking over at its own 14 with 7:02 on the first quarter clock,
the Blue Jays put together a 15-play dive that consumed 5 minutes,
20 seconds to double the advantage on a Hewitt
Tomlin 13-yard run with 1:42 on the clock.
Jay Leonard (Westminster,
Md./Westminster), filling in at punter in his final
collegiate game, unferled a 64-yard punt for a touchback. After a
three-and-out by Johns Hopkins on the ensuing possession, Cahill
took the punt at his own 30 and took it the paint to trim the
deficit to 14-7 with 6:37 on the third-quarter clock.
A McDaniel fumble late in the third quarter gave the Blue
Jays possession at the 13-yard line and Kase needed just three
plays to cover the 13 yards for his second touchdown of the
day.
A Leonard 28-yard field goal on the ensuing Green Terror
possession made it a 21-10 game but a 92-yard drive late in the
fourth quarter that included a 37-yard Kase run that put him over
the 200-yard mark for the third time in his career set the final
margin with 29 seconds to play.
Mike Weick (Holland, Pa./Penn
Charter) was one of four McDaniel players to reach
double-figure tackles. Weick's 14 stops marked the seventh
consecutive game that he reached the double-digit mark.
T.J. Develin (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown
Area) rushed for 81 yards on 18 carries in his first game
back after missing the last two with injury.
