THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel finished sixth out of eight teams with a pair of placefinishers in season-opening action at the Messiah Invitational.

THE LEADERS
Tony Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led the Green Terror with a first-place finish at 197, recording four pins along the way. His day started with a 2-minute, 14-second fall over Malcolm Hunt (Ursinus) before a 2-minute, 10-second pin of Liberty's Sean Gillespie in the quarterfinals. In his quarterfinal match, Wuest scored a 2-minute, 17-second fall of Blake Barrick (Liberty) before taking down Liberty's Austin Amos in 4:42 for the title.
Ryker Eckenbarger (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) added a third-place finish at 141. He started the day with a 16-5 win over Elizabethtown's Harry Marr in the quarterfinals before falling 4-2 to eventual champion Garret Cornell (Messiah) in the semifinals. Eckenbarger added a 16-5 win in the consolation semifinals and an 8-6 win over Gettysburg's Sean Thompson for third place.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• At 157, Alexander LaVeck's (Marriottsville, Md./McDonough) day started with a bye and pin early in the first minute of the third period. In the consolation bracket, however, he recorded four straight wins, starting with a 15-second pin. He had wins of 3-0 and 1-0 around a 17-0 technical fall before dropping a 7-3 decision to Colin Devlin (Gettysburg) in the consolation semifinals.
Raymond Kable, who had a bye in the opening round at 157, won his first match 10-2 over Liberty's David Over. He then fell to the consolation bracket after an 8-4 loss to Jacob Falk (Ursinus). Kable added an 11-5 win in the consolation bracket before falling 1-0 to LaVeck to finish his day 2-2.
• Steve Pabon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) opened his collegiate career with a 7-3 win over Wheaton's Anthony Zamora before falling to the consolation bracket in a first-period fall. Pabon added a 18-2 technical fall before another first-period fall ended his day with a 2-2 record at 133.
Tristen Cook (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) was pinned in his opening match at heavyweight before recording an 18-second pin and 1-minute, 49-second fall in the consolation bracket. His day finished with a second-period fall to wrap up a 2-2 debut.
Nick Malinowski (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin School of Maryland) notched a 2-minute, 34-second pin his first bout of the day before being pinned twice at 133.
• At 141, Isaiah Fosque (Laurel, Md./Laurel) dropped an 11-8 decision in his first bout before recording his first win with a 10-3 decision over Gettysburg's Jake Stein in the consolation bracket. Fosque then fell 7-4 to Luke Moynihan (Elizabethtown).
• Anthony Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) opened with a bye at 157 before recording a 10-5 win over Jonathan Gherman (Ursinus) and falling to the consolation bracket at the hands of eventual-champion Stephen Maloney (Messiah), 16-1.
• Deontae Frederick (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) also added a consolation-bracket victory at 157. He took a 9-7 sudden-victory win.
• Michael Bromley (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) started his run at 174 with a 5-minute, 26-second fall of Gettysburg's Efrain De Leon before falling 11-6 and bowing out with injury.
