WESTMINSTER, Md. – Upon the encouragement of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the McDaniel women’s basketball coaching staff will take part in the organization’s Pink Zone campaign for its home game against York (Pa.) on Thursday.
The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The organization has designated Feb. 13-22 for its initiative but many, including the Green Terror, are participating outside of that week due to scheduling conflicts. All coaches have been asked to wear pink on the bench. The goal is to educate, create awareness and motivate everyone to learn about cancer prevention.
The Green Terror coaching staff is asking for the support of its fans at Thursday’s game to show support for all cancer awareness by wearing something pink. Pink is the color that was chosen to recognize breast cancer.
After more than 1,200 institutions participated in the event last season, no fewer than 1,250 institutions across the country have already committed to participating in this year’s event.
In addition to the home game on Thursday, the Green Terror’s game at Gettysburg on Saturday, Feb. 21 will also be a Pink Zone game. If traveling to Gettysburg, fans are also encouraged to wear pink for the 4 p.m. game.
Admission is free to all home McDaniel regular-season basketball games. Game time on Thursday is 7 p.m.
