RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith limited McDaniel to just two hits, including a game-one no-hitter, in a doubleheader sweep in non-conference softball action on Sunday.

The Avenging Angels (5-3) took the opener 4-0 behind Taylor Jackson's no-hitter before completing the sweep 8-0 in five innings.

Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) reached base twice for the Green Terror (1-3) in game two with a hit by pitch and base knock.

Brittany Buckin led the Meredith offense in game two with two hits and two RBIs.

In the opener, Kelsey Mabe led off with a single and stole second before scoring on a Sarah Watson double. Watson later scored on a double steal with runners at the corners for a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Singles from Mabe and Watson coupled with a Maria Annunziata double in the fifth doubled the advantage.

Jackson struck out seven and allowed just a fifth-inning, two-out walk to Kristina Shank (Mardela Springs, Md./Mardela) in the no-no.

In game two, Erica Occena singled with one out in the bottom of the first before Bucklin drilled a two-out home run over the left-field fence for a 2-0 lead.

Eran Artigues worked a one-out walk in the fourth before scoring on a two-out Charley Cox single up the middle.

A bases-loaded double from Annunziata cleared the bases in the home fifth and keyed a five-run frame that ended the game early.

McDaniel had opportunities early in the nightcap with multiple runners on base in each of the first two innings but could not score.

The Green Terror opens its 12-game trip to the Sunkissed Games in Kissimmee, Fla., on Saturday, Mar. 10 against Ramapo and Ohio Northern. The first game begins at 1:30 p.m.
