Fletcher records six hits, win in opening sweep

WASHINGTON, D.C. – McDaniel rapped out 29 hits and scored 27 runs in a pair of five-inning victories to open the season at Gallaudet in non-conference softball action on Sunday.

Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) went 6-for-6 with 10 RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Green Terror (2-0), who took game one 10-0 before tallying a 17-2 victory in the nightcap.

Kimberly Klock paced the Bison (2-4) with two of its six hits in the twinbill.

With one out in the first inning of game one, Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) reached on a throwing error before scoring from second on a Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) triple.

Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) followed with a walk and Emily Sneeringer (Hanover, Pa./South Western) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Fletcher followed with a grand slam for a 5-0 lead.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led off the second with a walk before stealing second and scoring on a Galati double.

Maring followed with an RBI single before Liebowitz doubled and Sneeringer walk to load the bases for Fletcher, who drew a bases-loaded walk for a 8-0 lead.

An Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) RBI infield single scored Liebowitz for a 9-0 advantage.

Fletcher singled with one out in the fourth before giving was to pinch-runner Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn), who stole second and scored on a Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach two-out double.

In game two, Sidney and Galati led off with back-to-back singles before Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) drew a walk to load the bases.

Fletcher and Maring put together back-to-back two-run doubles for a 4-0 lead before Lauren Stricker (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) singled home Maring with two outs.

A pair of errors, sacrifice bunt and RBI groundout allowed Anna Lynch to score in the bottom of the frame to make it a 5-1 game.

Sidney reached second on an error to lead off the second before a Galati single and stole base put runners at second and third.

A Fletcher one-out double scored both before she came home on a Maring double.

Megan Liebknecht (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) double played Maring for a 9-1 lead.

An Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) two-run triple keyed a seven-run fourth inning. Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), Stitely, Fletcher and Stricker also had doubles in the frame.

Stricker bombed her first collegiate home run with one out in the fifth for a 17-1 lead.

An error and Mia Fernandez single coupled with a Klock RBI groundout set the final margin.

Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) struck out nine in game one while Fletcher fanned two in game two.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Mary Washington on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
