WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kellina Yarrish has been named McDaniel College's head field hockey coach, announced by Director of Athletics Paul Moyer on Tuesday.
"When we began this search, we believed we could attract a strong pool of candidates and we did," Moyer said. "During the process, Kellina's resume stood out and emerged at the top of our list. After her visit to campus and the interview process, we knew she was our selection. Kellina's experience in the Centennial Conference and as a Division III head coach makes her the perfect person to lead our field hockey program. She has a proven track record of being able to successfully build a program and I am confident she will have the same success here that she has had in each of her previous stops."
Yarrish comes to McDaniel after spending the last three seasons as the head coach at Cedar Crest. Her Falcon teams improved each season she was at the helm.
"I'd like to thank Paul Moyer and the search committee for this wonderful opportunity," Yarrish said. "I feel incredibly fortunate to be joining the McDaniel campus community, working in a thriving athletic department and connecting with the student-athletes. I'm looking forward to getting started and creating a successful, positive culture that will lead to personal growth, academic excellence and development on the field. As a former assistant coach in the Centennial Conference, I'm honored with the opportunity to return to such a competitive conference."
Yarrish took over a Cedar Crest program that did not win a game in 2014 and improved each season, posting a 10-6 record and bringing her team to within one game of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs. The 10 wins last fall matched the program record for wins in a season.
The 2017 CSAC Coach of the Year, she produced the conference's Rookie of the Year each of the last two seasons.
At Cedar Crest, she also served as the department's recruiting coordinator and served as a College Life Professor, assisting first-year students in making a successful transition from high school to college.
Prior to taking over the Cedar Crest program, she was an assistant at Dickinson for two seasons. While on the Red Devil staff, she was integral in helping the program to 12 wins and a Centennial Conference (CC) playoff berth in her first year.
She also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Keystone, where she was a captain and All-CSAC selection in 2008 and 2009.
Serving as a instructor at numerous camps around the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, she is the Founder and Director of the Lehigh Valley Sparx Field Hockey Club. The Sparx is a developmental club that serves student-athletes in the Lehigh Valley in Bethlehem, Pa. She holds Level I and II Coaching certification with USAFH.
Yarrish graduated from Keystone with a bachelor of science in elementary education with a minor in psychology in 2013. She also earned in masters of education from Cedar Crest in 2017.
Yarrish officially assumes her duties on Feb. 1.
