WESTMINSTER, Md. – Johns Hopkins, ranked 13th in the latest poll, used a nine-run sixth inning to break open a one-run game and defeat McDaniel 17-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Tuesday.

Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led the Green Terror (8-12, 0-3 CC) with three hits on the afternoon – part of an 11-hit effort for the team.

Ryan Orgielewicz led the Blue Jays (17-5, 3-0 CC) and the visitors' 19-hit outing with a 5-for-5 day, adding three RBIs and two runs scored. He also drew a walk.

Trailing 7-6, Mike Smith hit a cue shot with backspin to the right of the mound and he reached with one out to ignite a nine-run frame.

Orgielewicz followed a single to left before a fly ball gave McDaniel two outs in the inning.

A walk loaded the bases before Joe Conlon poked a two-run single through the left side to turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.

A single, hit batter and walk reloaded the bases in a 9-7 game before a Brian Lin two-run single and doubles to the gap by Smith and Orgielewicz pushed the lead to 15-7.

Three straight singles to start the seventh and a one-out Conor Reynolds single up the middle set the final margin.

After back-to-back walks to start the game, Orgielewicz drove a single through the left side to stake Johns Hopkins to a 2-0 lead in the first.

The Green Terror responded with a four-hit bottom of the frame to get back even. Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) and Valori led off the inning with back-to-back first-pitch knocks.

A two-run Conlon home run in the top of the third capped a three-run frame before McDaniel went back to work with four runs in the home half.

Brad Thaxton (Stevensville, Md./DeMatha) had the big hit of the inning with a two-run single up the middle to tie the game before a Tyler O'Shea (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) sacrifice fly gave the hosts their first lead, 6-5.

A Lin single, wild pitch, balk and Smith single evened the game in the top of the fourth.

Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) drew a one out walk in the fifth before moving to second on a passed ball and scoring on a Thaxton single to the gap.

Thaxton and O'Shea each finished with two hits. Thaxton added three RBIs.
