Valori records pair of hits

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Ripon scored five runs in the first inning to key a 14-4 victory over McDaniel in non-conference baseball action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Friday.

Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led the Green Terror (4-7) with two hits and two RBIs.

Randy Finger led the Red Hawks (1-8) with a 4-for-5 day, adding four RBIs.

Back-to-back doubles by Hector Aguinaga and Riley Erickson staked Ripon to a 1-0 lead with one out in the top of the first.

Finger followed with a two-run double before singles by Nick Taranto and Josh Oswald coupled with a two-out Robbie Schuettpelz stretched the lead to 5-0.

Valori and Eric Grantland (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) led off the second and third innings, respectively, with home runs to make it a 6-2 game.

Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) and Valori followed with back-to-back base hits to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Errors in the fifth and sixth coupled with a Tarranto triple stretched the lead to 10-3 before the Red Hawks tacked on two runs in each the eighth and ninth innings.

A hit batter, Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harriton) single and error set the final margin in the bottom of the ninth.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Catholic on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
