AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Western New England scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 7-6 victory over McDaniel in non-conference baseball action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Sunday.
Kasey Nelson (St. Pete Beach, Fla./St. Michael's [Md.]) was one of four players for the Green Terror (2-4) to record two hits.
Ben LaCroix led the Golden Bears (4-1) with a 4-for-5 day, including the game-winning hit.
Trailing 6-5, LaCroix led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to right field to tie the game.
Jamie Schofield led off the sixth with a single up the middle before being erased on a Erik Lacaire fielder's choice. A walk put runners at first and second before a LaCroix single up the middle broke the deadlock.
Western New England jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a five-run second inning. A Joe Cassella two-run double followed by a Alex Loparco two-run home run were the big hits of the frame.
A one-out Eric Grantland (Pasadenda, Md./Northeast) single up the middle and Nelson double cut the deficit to 5-2 with runners at second and third.
Dunn led off the fourth with a double down the line before moving to third and scoring on a throwing error for a 6-5 lead.
Rosanova, Valori and Finch all joined Nelson with two hits.
The Green Terror returns to action against Wis.-Platteville on Monday. Game time is 9 a.m.
