WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic plated three first-inning runs and held on for a 3-2 win over McDaniel in non-conference baseball action on Monday.

Pat Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) rapped out two hits with an RBI and run scored for the Green Terror (0-1) in the squad's season opener. James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) added two hits and an RBI.

Nick Clary drove in a pair of runs for the Cardinals (4-0) with his first-inning double.

Brendan Breslin led off the bottom of the first with a single to right field before Eric Scamardella drew a walk to put runners at first and second.

After a strikeout, Mark Kalokitis drew a walk to load the bases before Clary's double to right staked the hosts to a 2-0 lead.

Chirs McCloud followed with a sacrifice fly for the 3-0 lead.

A one-out walk by Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) in the third followed by a Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) put runners at first and second.

With two outs, Christopher singled to right to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Christopher and Chiorello rapped out back-to-back hits to lead off the sixth with runners at second and third before Jonah Jimenez got back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to get out of the jam unscathed.

Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) greeted reliever Dustin Hanley with an infield single in the night before being erased on a fielder's choice one batter later.

A Chiorello double to left plated Christopher to draw the visitors within 3-2 before Hanley recorded two of Catholic's seven strikeouts to get out the frame with the lead.

Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) combined to limit the Cardinals to just three base runners after the first inning. Jones fanned four in four innings as did Monger.

McDaniel returns to action at Stevenson on Thursday. Game time is 3 p.m.
