Beckett Named USBWA Division III National Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McDaniel College women's basketball senior Elaina Beckett was named Division III National Player of the Week by the Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Beckett was named Centennial Conference Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in her career and second-straight week.

Beckett averaged 27.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 5.0 steals in two more McDaniel victories last week as the team is now 6-0 this season and received more votes in the WBCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll. She shot almost 60 percent from the floor, going 22-for-37, including 4-for-10 from three-point range. She was also 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Beckett totaled her second 30-point game of the season with 30 points in a 73-38 victory over Eastern. She had a double double with 10 rebounds while adding six assists and seven steals. In an 82-31 win over Notre Dame of Maryland, she had 25 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Beckett now has 1,152 points in 76 career games, moving her past Erin Murphey '98 and Ali Moreland '10 into 12th on the program's all-time scoring list.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 11th season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
