Peoples, Black lead McDaniel at Green Terror Challenge

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Emily Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes to lead McDaniel to an overall first-place finish at the 2011 Green Terror Challenge in women's cross country action on Saturday.

As a team, the current Green Terror team and its alums took five of the first eight places in the 5,000-meter race, which McDaniel won with 34 points. When added to its second-place 48 points in the 3,000-meter race, the Green Terror came out on top of the six teams that scored in both events with 82 points.

Peoples completed the wet course in a time of 21:30.90 behind Green Terror alum Jill Krebs, who won the race with a time of 20:32.90, and a pair of Roanoke runners.

Missy Black (Atglen, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was sixth overall with a time of 21:56.50. The two seniors were separated by a second alum, Kelly Gruber (21:48.70).

Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) rounded out the trio of top-eight finishes in eighth with a time of 22:16.70.

Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington) and Avalon McOmber (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added top-30 finishes. Shinn crossed 17th with a time of 21:31.50 while McOmber was 26th in a time of 24:57.60.

Sarah Kulp (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) was the only other McDaniel competitor in the longer race, finishing 45th in a time of 27:56.90.

Peoples doubled back in the 3K race, this time beating the former hilltop harrier with a time of 12:31.50. Krebs was fifth in a time of 12:32.30.

Black and Shinn rounded out Green Terror runners in both events. Black was ninth in a time of 12:58.40 and Shinn was 17th (13:47.00).

Carly Hamann (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood) placed 21st in a time of 14:01.80.

Amber Slater (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished 24th (14:08.20) and Kristin Beil (Parkton, Md./Hereford) followed Slater in 25th (14:10.70).

McDaniel returns to action at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York (Pa.) on Saturday. The first race begins at 4 p.m.
