WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel won the first set 25-12 en route to a sweep of St. Mary's (Md.) in non-conference volleyball action on Friday.
Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) led the Green Terror (5-1) to the 25-12, 25-20, 25-10 win with seven kills and five total blocks.
Brigid Morris paced the Seahawks (0-5) with six kills.
After a back-and-forth start to the first set, Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman), Isabel Paci (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) and Lorenzen put together three straight kills to open up a 9-5 lead.
A Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) ace keyed a 6-0 run that opened up a 20-8 advantage en route to the 13-point win.
Behind two of Embry's five aces, McDaniel opened up a 14-7 lead in the second set and led by as many as 19-9 before St. Mary's closed the gap with five straight points.
The Green Terror steadily built an 17-10 lead in the third set before tallying the final eight points of the match.
Embry chipped in six kills while Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) and Paci added five kills each. Lugar had four blocks as well.
As a team, McDaniel notched 14 aces. In addition to Embry's five, Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) added three. Bauman and Embry led the defense with 10 digs each.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Goucher and Alvernia on Saturday. Action begins at 12 p.m.
