Martin records 20 kills in ECAC tournament

BETHANY, W.Va. – Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) recorded 20 kills to lead McDaniel in the 2013 ECAC Southwest volleyball championship tournament at Bethany (W.Va.) on Saturday.

The Green Terror (19-9) finished the season, dropping a 3-0 decision to the host Bison (30-10) in the semifinals before falling 3-0 to Grove City in the consolation match.

Martin had seven kills against Bethany and 13 against the Wolverines (16-16) while Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) added 12 kills in the third-place match.

In the first match, Bethany jumped out to a 13-3 lead and led 19-9 before holding on for a 25-15 victory in the opening set.

The second set featured six ties and three lead changes before the Bison ultimately went on a 6-0 run keyed by four straight Dylana McKenzie kills en route to a 25-19 win.

Bethany scored the first four points of the third set en route to a 25-14 win.

Against Grove City, there were a total of 26 ties and 13 lead changes in the three sets.

The Wolverines rallied from a 23-21 deficit behind two kills each from Nataligia Galens and Tierza Rangel to win the first set, 25-23.

An Amy Collins ace sparked a 7-2 finish to the second set, giving Grove City a 25-20 win before tallying six of the last nine points for a 25-22 win in the final set.

Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) led the defense in the consolation match with 16 digs while Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) added 10 digs and 20 assists.
