Martin’s double-double leads way in victory
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel hit .361 in a 3-0 non-conference volleyball win over Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (19-5) with 10 kills and 10 digs to notch her 12th double-double of the season. She also added two aces.
Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) added nine kills, four aces and four total blocks while Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added four kills and four blocks. Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) added three kills and four blocks.
Cortney Silvis led the Gators (12-11) with seven kills while Cleaya Antes had eight digs.
Tied at 3-all in the first set, a service error gave McDaniel a 4-3 lead that it wouldn't relinquish.
A Rose kill keyed a 4-0 lead that pushed the advantage to 7-3.
A Julia Wainwright (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) ace stretched the lead to 10-4 before three straight Rose aces helped stretch the lead to 15-5 en route to a 25-11 win.
Trailing 7-4 in the second set, three straight attacking error knotted the set at 7-all before a Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) ace gave the Green Terror the lead for good.
Back-to-back Martin kills pushed the lead to 10-7 en route to a 25-14 victory.
A Martin ace capped a 5-1 start to the third set.
Notre Dame closed to within 7-6 on a Kamelya Medina kill before Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) counted with a kill of her own.
A Rose kill and Olivia Kunc (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) ace pushed the lead to 9-6 en route to a 25-15 win.
Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) chipped in 14 assists while Moyer added 13. Both had three digs while Kellen added two aces.
The Green Terror, who secured a first-round bye in next week's Centennial Conference tournament with a Johns Hopkins 3-0 victory over Gettysburg, concludes the regular season at Gettysburg on Saturday. Match time is 12 p.m.
